30 x 40" / Oil on Canvas"The Thaw" is a contemplation on the effects of climate change, and the resulting changes in our mountain landscape. It's unclear whether the foreground is land or lake, earth or water, just as it is uncertain how long our snows will keep our groundwater supplies intact.
While we enjoy the mountains in so many ways, I invite the viewer to consider how heavy our footprint weighs on these seemingly strong, but inevitably vulnerable entities.
