Stoneware clay, hand-built to resemble an ammonite shell. The applied clay sea snakes meander in and around the shell as they look for the sea-leaves. The clay is burnished with a fine slip before firing the first time. The second firing takes place in an earthen pit, where straw, cornhusks, salt, wood, seaweed, etc. act as colorants in a low-fire process. The result is a collage of wonderful white, gray, peach, burgundy, and black. The vessel is not watertight (low-fire).
