Terry Crook

Terry Crook is a ceramic artist specializing in alternative firing techniques, as well as high fire stoneware and porcelain. Terry first studied ceramics at Miami University. Little did she know that this would lead to a lifelong passion. Terry has been a working professional potter for over 35 years. She set up her first studio in Lyons , CO in 1979 after working in a production pottery for almost 5 years. She now works in North Boulder in a studio in back of her home.

Terry's work has recently focused on several alternative firing techniques including raku, horsehair, pit firing and saggar firing. The serendipitous nature of these firings models the art we find in our natural world. Terry is intrigued with these alternative firing techniques which create exciting, unpredictable, one of a kind results. These alternative firing processes dramatically demonstrate that pottery is a fire art. The horsehair firing is fascinating as horsehair is laid on an extremely hot pot pulled directly from the hot fire of the kiln. Horsehair is then laid on the piece to create stunning line patterns. Terry loves this union of art and nature and trusts that you will enjoy it also.
