Workshop Description

This workshop is design to explore the non traditional encaustic

techniques designed by Marco. Discover the play of wax painting,

including texturing, etching, sculpting and wax on wax appliqué,

that Marco has developed with his unique approach to Encaustic

painting. Utilizing these techniques, we’ll complete the workshop

painting your own encaustic painting. Previous experience is not

Marco’s has been creating with his innovative approach to wax

painting for 18 years. His art has shown in galleries and exhibitions

around the country, teaching workshops in his hometown of

Boulder and in Breckenridge Colorado over the past 5 years.

Instead of the customary beeswax, Marco formulated

a specially blended paraffin wax as his paint base which eliminates

the Encaustic “Burn In” process. Utilizing his opaque blend,

greater flexibility and clearer pigmented colorings are achieved,

including a wide range of textures, faux finishes, engraved, and

sculpted effects. Wax is applied with hot styluses, hot brushes.

irons, air guns and wax on wax appliqué. Laid on as thinly

polished glazes or heavy encrusted impastos that can be carved,

molded, shaped and scraped, building high and low reliefs.
