Mesquite Flats Sand Dunes, Early Dawn, Death Valley NP
Artist:

Ironically named, Mesquite Flats is a complex field of Sahara-like sand dunes covering an area of 12 square miles in central Death Valley. Erosion of the valley mountains creates grains of sand carried by the wind. The dunes form where 3 dominant wind patterns cancel each other, allowing the sand grains to fall. The dune field is thus a living sculpture, stable but growing and changing over time.
