Wasake Tatonka

Wasake Tatonka

Artist: Karen Armon

18.5 x 27.5 / Oil painting "Wasake Tatonka" means "Strong Buffalo." For the Cheyenne River Lakota Nation as the film "Gather" outlined, "getting back to the way it is supposed to be" means husbanding the Great Plains Buffalo. This painting, taken from the film, shows two Tatonka looking at the camera from above. I wanted to capture their dominance, strength, and openness in this painting of these two beasts.
