Poppy Power

Poppy Power

Artist: Ed Narvaez

8 x 8" / Egg Tempera on BoardThis is an egg tempera painting, depicting a bright orange poppy surrounded by several unopened poppy buds on a stark black background. This artwork is done in a hyperrealism painting style with meticulous rending to produce a sense of heightened reality. Egg tempera is made by mixing egg yolk and water with powdered pigments. Egg tempera paint cannot be blended on the painting surface, so each color is mixed and applied separately with a small brush to give the illusion of blended color. This process is extremely time-consuming and requires attention to detail.
