New Mexico: White Sands

The brightest natural wonder of all the parks, White Sands’ wave-like dunes are made of gypsum crystal sand. The park is in southern New Mexico and its 145,762 acres are surrounded by the White Sands Missile Range, a military site known for its role in developing atomic weapons. The park has hiking areas, sledding hills, and boasts stunning skylines throughout the day.

The park’s artwork highlights the wavy ripples and shadows in the sand, along with the desert foliage and unique skies.
