Maria Pacca

Maria Pacca is an artist on the loose. Born in Brazil, she moved to Los Angeles with her family, as an adolescent. Having traveled extensively and lived in many places since, she acquired a variety of subject matter and different media. With either acrylics, oils or watercolor and always feeling a visceral connection to the places she has lived, she painted ocean waves in Hawaii, volcanoes in Guatemala, exuberant landscapes in Brazil and the Rocky Mountains in Colorado. Through all of these travels, she has continued to draw the human figure in compressed charcoal, one of her most favored mediums.

Maria’s work springs from a deep-rooted connection with nature and with the unseen world of spirit and passion. Her work has been known to reveal mysteries that even she did not see in the creation of the piece. Maria is driven to demonstrate the vibrational beauty of living things to others. She endeavors to reflect the joy of living that comes to her from natural surroundings and from everyday life.  “My work changes as I move around. I am nomadic and I want to paint what I am immersed in: The sea, the mountains, the rainforest. I want to convey what I see and feel; that the world is full of miraculous life and beauty.”

Maria has always been an artist.  From a very young age, her father – an artist, himself – supplied her with materials to create colorful drawings and paintings. She began with caricatures: Drawing people and animals through the lens of her own perspective. Her father’s appreciation for her work affirmed her confidence.

Maria has participated in one-woman shows and in group shows internationally and her work hangs in private collec­tions all over the world. Pres­ently, she lives in Boulder, Colorado, where she is working on an installation project that came to her in a dream. This installation will incorporate her unique “Artscopes” - cylinder-shaped works painted in acrylics on canvas. With this project she is moved to tell the story of the Amazon jungle through its centuries of lush tropical profusion and into its present-day near destruction.
