Candace Shepard

Candace Shepard was born in Connecticut in 1951. She attended Hartford Art school at the University of Hartford. Candace moved to Boulder, Colorado in 1976 to attend the University of Colorado, Boulder and the Naropa Institute. Candace has since been exhibiting her work all around the front range in group and solo shows, museums, and alternative and commercial galleries.

Candace says that she engages in active meditation as she works with organic, sinuous, rhythmic, flowing imagery. She creates visual poetry from the collective images, thinking around and through an initial concept on many levels of consciousness. Candace works in free association with the present moment in whichever medium she is using – painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, poetry, or collage. Candace believes that the world is indefinable, unknowable, strange, funny, horrifying, and beautiful. She uses her work as a conceptual exploration through visual creation, and she creates things by hand in direct contact with materials.
